Mixing frogs?

TheImpaler Aug 22, 2004 12:32 PM

My girlfriend recently got two green tree frogs, and was wondering if she could keep any other frog species with them.

Normally, I would have advised her not to even consider it, but I seem to remember an article in REPTILES magazine about tree frogs. It centered around three species, including the green. I believe, if memory serves correctly, that it may have said that these three species could be kept together. Unfortuanitly, I can't find that issue.

So, can any other frog species be kept safely with green tree frogs?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am new to this forum, but I have the issue of REPTILES you're talking about. Its the Nov. 2003 issue.
It talks about Greens (Hyla cinerea) Grays (H. versicolor, and H. chrysoscelis) and Barking Treefrogs, (H. gratiosa). I couldn't find anywhere where it said they could be kept together, but their ranges/breeding areas do overlap. So, in theory, you might have some success with these guys being together. I used to keep Pacific treefrogs and a young Western Toad with a pair of greens and a fat old Barking treefrog with no event, but that was in a 20 gallon tank. Just make sure they can't eat one another. Hope this helps, and if someone has different experiences, be sure to speak up and correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks, and I hope to have great treefrog talk with all.

I have 1 H. cinera, 1 H. gratiosa, and 1 H. versicolor/chrysocelis in a 25 gal tall tank with live pothos and a large ceramic stump with branches. This setup has been maintained since I got all 3 frogs this summer on rainy nights in NC and I have had absolutely no problem with the frogs. Just passing on my experience, hope this helps.

No, even if the article says they can b/c they all live in the same area, the answer is still no.

I have 2 gray tree frogs in with 2 greens and I have never had a problem in the 2 & 1/2 years I've had them.
