Is it too hot out for Rough Green snakes?

matt_015 Jun 24, 2003 05:42 PM

At the start of the summer, when it was still in the 70's and 80's I had a bunch of Rough Greens in my yard, but once it started breaking into the 90's I no longer see any around. Is it too hot, or do they just not like my yard anymore?

Time for mating and nesting is over, and so that cuts down on their amount of traveling and thus your likelihood of seeing them. Also they may be active earlier or later than you were seeing them before because of hotter temps. Those are a couple of possibilities that could account for fewer sightings.
