can bearded dragons live outside

janome Aug 22, 2004 05:18 PM

I live in Arizona so it gets hot here in the summer. Near 110-115 at times. Average is like 105. From what I've read beardies like the hot, dry temps. So was wondering if I could house them outside in a secure enclosure (incase of stray cats).

Also how big would the enclosure need to be. I've heard a 55 gallon size tank for 1 adult is about right so was thinking of makeing something so they can get natural sun light. I know I would have to heat them in the winters. We get down into the 30-40 degree range sometimes in the winter.

Does anyone have any input on this? I have snakes and a couple baby anoles so was thinking of a bearded dragon. I've seen them at shows and at Petco and they look so cute! The main reason I was thinking of keeping them outside was because I don't have room in the house for a big enclosure.

Thanks for any replys and input.

Well, I live in Arizona too....you can not safely house them outdoors all year round, especially young dragons....it gets too cold here is the winter for them with temps down to freezing at times overnight and for some, the intense summers are too hot and they will suffer heat stroke....

I do house some outdoors from April to October, very few out of my adult colony stay out during July and August....and even those I have to bring in on the days over 108....

I live in the middle of North Carolina. I go thru a lot of day in, two days out. I can not leave them outside overnight. The temps are alright sometimes, but the humidity is way too high.
When I walk outside in the morning, everything is wet. Looks like it rained hard sometime during the night.

Hi...don't know much about the indoor/outdoor living, but I'm pretty sure Anoles and a Bearded Dragon would make for a BAD SITUATION. I wouldn't try it, your dragon will probably try to eat the Anole. Unfortunately you can't really ask anyone in Petco either because often times they won't even know the difference between the two. So I would be safe and keep them apart!

anoles and bearded dragons together!!! I don't know how you got that from my message. I stated that I have snake and anoles already, ALL housed seperately and was thinking of getting a bearded dragon.
