cut fish for food

Earl Aug 22, 2004 07:22 PM

I have read several posts about what to feed garter and ribbon snakes. They meniton many different small fish, and pinkies, but have not mentioned cut up sport fish. My ribbon and garter readly accept this. Why isnt it more popular?

I tried fish, my Garter's just don't like them for some reason. Must be the species.

Thamnophis and Nerodia species/ssp (Garter/Ribbon/Water snakes)are known to take chopped/cut raw fish occasionally. I believe it is recommended to include the entrails, probably for nutritional completeness.

....My garters ate tiny chunks of bait-store minnows when they were first born. It is suggested that the entrails be included for just the reason you cited. Kinda hard when they are little, but as they grew they started eating the whole minnow. Just fed them each a pinky today. They have been on pinks for quite some time now. Now my only minnow-eating reptile is my little snapping turtle! Duffy
