Is that a BCL Black Tailed Peruvian or a Very Dark Regular Peruvian? Cool Looking snake either way, but I thought there is a lot of red for a Black Tail

Hoppy, you're just like me.. nothing meets your standards!

But, who said this was a black tail? and just what is a Black tail (other than C. molossus)? I said this was a black Peru boa and it obviously is. It is a BCC of Pucallpa origin.

BCL is Boa C. longicauda.. which are predominantly black but not the same thing, nor is 'black-tailed' the best description for longicauda.. the subspecific name refers to the above average sub-caudal count.. the people who described longicauda wanted to give it a name that refers to the fact that male longicauda probe to many more scales than other subspecies, but no subspecies name like magne-hemipene or some other was considered acceptable. I've got a nice litter of longicauda here now, very different animals.

Hope this clears that up for you..

Don't get me wrong Gus, That is one cool looking Boa, I was just confused if it was a BCC Peruvian with lots of Black or a BCL Peruvian with lots of red, that is all. The Common name of Black Tail Peruvian is an oldie I guess referring to the BCL Boas, so when I saw the "Black" Peru boa I was not sure which it was, but either way it is still one Striking snake!
Thanks
