Ultratherm heat pad between plywood and linoleum?

dmac Aug 22, 2004 08:08 PM

I know you're not supposed to trap heat, but it's not trapped if it can pass through the linoleum, right?

Linoleum can be used in conjunction with radiant floor heaters in homes so my best guess is that it's safe for herps.

If you're really worried about it cut a rectangle out of the plywood floor that is approximately 2" longer and wider than the size of your Ultratherm. Make sure the rectangle is inset a couple of inches from the walls of the cage so it still provides structural integrity for the cage. The Ultratherm will then attach to the underside of the linoleum.

This will provide an airspace and allow you to get to the Ultrtherm in case something goes wrong with it.

Sorry I didn't respond to this previously. I had a 4x2x2 burmese python enclosure stack that I installed flexwatt in and then placed a layer of linoleum inside covering the floor and going up 2" on each side, I taped the thermostat probe directly to the hottest to touch point that the flexwatt gave off and I had no issues with that set up. I used it for approximately 2 years before I broke it down and rebuilt larger enclosures.

I had them set to cycle off at the 92-94 degree range (I used an on off thermostat)
