Infertile egg problems!

dmlove Aug 22, 2004 08:10 PM

Hey all - Everyone is doing great here except Artemis- one of our females - i beleive has infertile eggs. She has had and laid infertile eggs in the past, and its no big deal. But right now, im pretty sure she has them as she is showing all signs of being gravid - i think so gravid she is refusing food (Although still looks plump). At certain angles you can sometimes make out eggs shapes, although when palpated, you can feel nothing. I would get an x-ray, but last time i did with infertile eggs (when i thought she may be eggbound but laid the infertiles a few days later) the eggs didnt show up on the screen mostly because of the lack of calcium etc in the infertile egg shells. She is digging like crazy in the cage - but when i put her in her laying bin she digs but does not lay, and soemtimes just sits there in the light. It really does sound like she has em - and she has stopped most of her eating - so im worried. Shes acting like the laying spot may not be suitable enough for her - yet she layed in there plenty times before. Ive changed everything around, but no laying yet. Its been about a week of digging like crazy and about 5 days of the lack of appetite(although eating a little bit). Still looks plump. Any ideas? Possible eggbound?

Give her some more time, she will lay when she is ready. My redgold female did the same thing for 2 weeks and then layed no problem. Sometimes they just need a little extra time.
