Meet O-ren, my newest rescue. My first collared

riiotgrrl Aug 22, 2004 09:17 PM

This little girl was pulled out of her tank after who knows how long of cowering in the corner, trying to avoid all of the other more dominant collards. I found her at petco. She is malnourished, scarred up, dehydrated, twitching, and most likely impacted with calcisand.
I know i didnt need another, but i had a certain feeling about this animal.I needed to get her out. My friends tHAT work there can only do so much...
So, i have my first collard lizard. I have worked with them in the past, so i am pretty sure i know what to do. I am not sure i know yet whether i will keep her. One way or another i want her to be healthy.
She is in a 10g right now (small i know, but that was all i had for the time being. I have a 20g on the way) She has paper towel as a substrate, so i can watch out for parasites, and check her poo. She has plenty of hides, and things to climb on, so i am sure that she wount be too unhappy in there for the time being.
If any of you have any advice on her, please i am open to suggestions. So hints, tips, and maybe some links? that woudl be very helpful. Thanks for looking. I will do my best with her.

I would try to get her outside for short periods of sunlight, that seems to be the "cure-all". Stimulates appetite, boosts calcium etc.

Good job. Well you have a handful of animals now and Im sure one more will only make it better.

About the tank,
Your incoming tank is alittle small. I think a singular collared should be in around a 40 gallon, pushing it with a 30. They are running lizards that need room and as everyone has said the more the better.

I know how you feel when animals suffer, it takes a great person to stop it. Congradulations on your new pal.

-My cage is 135 gallon and they still seem to be hungry for more-
