Egyptian tortoise runts

DaviDC. Aug 22, 2004 10:09 PM

Tonight a friend sent me a link to a great website on Egyptian tortoises. Anyone with any interest in this species should definitely check it out. I came across a photo of 2 runts & was struck by how much my tortoise looks like one of his. Here's a copy of his photo with my 2.5 year old superimposed. Pretty uncanny resemblance, huh?

What makes you call them runts. They are very small torts. The key way to identify them is the triangle shaped dark area on their plastron.

Real cute little guys. I have one now he is about 3 months old, little bigger then a quarter.

Here is a pic. I don't have any good one yet though.

They are called runts because they were the smallest hatchling from their clutch. The smallest offspring of any litter or group of siblings is called the runt.

I have been in the market for a hatchling Egyptian tortoise for quite some time, but can't seem to locate one. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
