Yellowbelly history?

4runner Aug 23, 2004 12:53 AM

First of all thanks to the breeders who have shared pictures on what true yellowbellies (het ivories) look like. How long ago were secretive breeders fishing through bins of captive hatched/wild caught balls specifically for the yellowbellies? I'm curious as I have a 2001 ball (bought in early 02, my first ball) that has got me cautiously optimistic. Anybody have info on the history of the yellowbelly?

Thanks,
Mark

I think if you do a search through these forums you will find the answers to your questions have all been answered time, and time again in full detail. That's the best way you get the whole story from begining to end without having the breeders working with them repost it all. G'luck.

I have been following all of the threads concerning yellowbellies, heck I've been following every thread on here since the bug bit me a couple of years ago. I would just like a year that people started actively looking for yellowbellies. How about the importers in Africa, are they looking for yellowbellies now too?

While I doubt that I could be so lucky to have one, mine does show characteristics of a yellowbelly. Perhaps I should heed the advice of those that have them in that if I have to question whether I have one or not, then I probably don't have one.

Thanks,
Mark

It is my understanding that YBs have been being produced for the past 6 years. I assume the first YB x YB crossing was done last year by the Sutherlands because this was when the first ivory was produced. There's a great story behind it over on there website under the Ivory Ball Python. It took a while for those that had YBs to figure out that they were Het Ivory as well and once that was known it eventually got to the public that "Rumor has it. . .". Therefore the YB craze began.

That's a good question about the African importers and YBs. My personaly opioion on that is that they can't tell the difference between a 'true' YB and any other normal. There's a good portion of the BP world here that hasn't learned to distinguish them from any other odd looking belly pattern. I myself will be ordering a few hundred hatchlings in 05 and crossing my fingers as I sift through them hoping the BP gods will show me there favor. Hope this answers your question.
