Over the last 2 trips of road cruising, we have come across three tiny california kings! Ive never seen them so small, 8 inches I would say, so Im assuming they are recent hatchlings. Only one pic came out, enjoy!!!

Cruising in southern california, near Lancaster. We have seen the 4 babies between 8:45 and 9:45 pm. Its an area of high desert which is hot during the day but cools off quick at night, making perfect cruising conditions right now. Most of the finds are mojave rattlesnakes (see venomous crotalid forum) and these babies were an awesome find. We also found a baby long nosed snake, which looks kind of like a tri color king but has a speckled appearance, so its cool. Also, one DOR baby mojave. Cant wait to get out again and see if any more hatchlings are on the road! (hoping to go tomorrow)
Metalpest....i also live in lancaster...LOL, and cruise the roads..thats cool(my wife thinks i'm the only crazy one out there), i wonder if i have ran into to you out there? i ran into some guys out there about a month ago around midnight? Well it's good to meet some locals out there. Your right usually we find mojave greens and a few gophers...Kings are what we are looking for only they seem to be the exception!
Jim
You dont see many kings? We found a nice 48 inch specimen on avenue J near 110 st west. We have run into several other people as well but I dont think we ran into any last month, I think it was more like April/May. We havent been out much since then. We ran into a couple of guys from Utah with a permit to collect 100 mojaves for venom research, did you come across them ever?
No i didn't run into those guys? oh well maybe i will see you out there one of these nights.
