Which temp controller - Helix, Big Apple, other?

dangerously Aug 23, 2004 08:14 AM

I'm getting ready to set up another ball python rack, and I'm looking for input on temperature controllers. The rack is pretty standard - flexwatt under the sterilites. I was wondering if anyone has any preference as far as temp controllers. I've been using Big Apple Herp "Herp Power" controllers without problems, but I've been looking at Helix DBS 1000 for the new rack. It just looks like the Helix setup for the same features (night drop, etc) would be quite a bit more money than the Big Apple. Is it worth it, or are there others that I should consider?

Any input would be appreciated!

Any proportional controller will work fine. Big Apple's works great as you know. Helix's are very nice but won't do any more for you than the Big Apple is already doing if you are simply using Flexwatt.
