my snake has lots of missing scales

cee4 Aug 23, 2004 08:35 AM

She was missing for 3 weeks and I found her yesterday in the bathroom. Last night she shed and I was hoping all those patches would dissapear but they didnt..Are these injuries? they are like little patches were maybe 3 or 4 scales are missing and its whitish where they are gone. She has several spots along her body like this. Should I put anything on these or just let them alone and keep an eye on them. Will they eventually go away or will she always have these? Thanks

Well, I can't say for sure what will happen; but this is what I believe will occur. It is possible, if the wounds were deep enough, that the snake may always have a scar. It has been my experience that missing scales grow back, but I do know there is a point where the scale has been damaged beyond growing back, much like human skin.

My cat got a hold of one of my escapees one day and the snake just got some claw marks in her. After a shed, or two, the holes (missing scales) were repaired. I don't believe that there is anything you need to do unless the snake is still bleeding or you see any other signs of distress. Hope this helps.
