Compact Flourescent ?'s

sobek Jun 24, 2003 06:28 PM

I am looking at using some compact flourescent lighting for some planted tanks I'm putting togeather. I will list the tank, its size, whats going in it, and what type of light I was planning on using. If any one could give me an *ok* or some suggestions that would be great... All of the lights I'm planning to use will be bought from "www.ahsupply.com" so any ?'s about them can be found there.

29 Gallon High
(18"H/30"L/12"W)
1.1 D. Leucomelas
2x55watt Bright kit, or would a 1x55watt work?

65 Gallon Short
(25"H/36"L/19"W)
0.2 Mossy Leaftail Geckos
1x96watt Bright Kit, I was going to go with the 2x55w but they said this would work better.

If I need to change anything please let me know.
Thanks, SoBeK

I have a 55 watt CF from AH supply on a 28 gallon lizard lounge. One is plenty of light. I also have 96 CF on my 45 gallon and that works great as well. I need to run a fan across the top of 45 gallon due to heat. I also elevate both lights 4-6 inches above the top. AH was great to deal with, I've had their lights for about two years and they still work great. I have some photo's at the following link if you want to take a look.

wow your tanks are beautiful! How long have they been growing?
So a 1x96watt bright kit would work for my 65 gallon?
Thanks SoBeK

Thanks, when those photos were taken I think they were about 6 months old. The 96 watt fits nicely in a 36" enclosure. It puts out plenty of light for my setups.

I've got one of ahsupply's 2x55w kits on an Oceanic 58 gal viv (dimensions similiar to your 65) and it is a bit bright. I had to put a piece of screen between it and one of the alocasias to shade it a bit. It was getting a little sunburnt. Other than that, it looks great and the rest of the plants love it.
