Young Beardie Impacted or not?

QTGirl813 Aug 23, 2004 10:02 AM

Hi...one of my young beardies seems to have a problem. I am going to take her to the vet soon but I was hoping someone could help me on here so I can minimize her stress level as much as possible. Basically my problem is that the slit is protruding out. It looks swelled and not normal. I thought it was maybe impacted but I put her in warm water, she pooped. Can a dragon poop and still be impacted? Or if they poop that means she isn't impacted and it may be something else? I am going to try to get a picture to put on here, but if anyone has any photos of what an impacted beardies slit looks like, please let me know. She seems fine other than that...eating, alert, etc. Any help would be much appreciated!

It doesn't sound like impaction. It sounds more like an irritated vent. Do you have her on a substrate that might have got in and is causing an irritation? Warm baths and plenty of fluids to help flush it out is all I can think of. If it gets bad take her into a vet.

Agreed with Sean.

If she is active, eating and pooping she probably is NOT impacted.
Sounds like she has gotten irritated, scratched or has a piece of substrate stuck inside her vent and it is causing swelling and discomfort.
I would try the nice warm soaks and put her on paper towels and get her into the vet

Good luck with her and please let us know what you find out

Thank you both for responding....I feel much better now. I will do the warm water soaks and take her off the substrate and see how it goes from there. If it gets worse we're goin to the vet! Thanks again and I will let you know what happens
