I was on my way to my mother-in-laws house earlier today when I noticed a dead snake along the side of the road. Always curious, I turned around to check it out, it nearly looked like a Norther pine, which would be a vary rare find in eastern NC. When I got to it it turned out to be a HUGE eastern hog, and a strange colored one. I picked this snake up, and being 6'1" you can take the same guess that I did when I held it up by the end of the tail from my hip and it still dragged on the ground that this snake was easily 3' in length. And the odd part was it's color. I've seen melanistics, reds, oranges and regulars in this area, but never have I even heard of a snake this color. It had the traditional patterning of an eastern hog, but instead of a yellow/red/orange background...it had a highly contrasting white background, the reason I mistook it for a northern pine. Unfortunately I didn't have the digital with me so I couldn't get a pic of this wonderful huge snake. Has anyone heard of this color before? I'm hoping to get a chace to see a live one sometime. Maybe the clutch I got from my wc female will hatch one of these beauties.
