Shedding problem

mikeowen17 Aug 23, 2004 12:04 PM

Hi,
Im a little worried about how long it is taking my baby snow corn to shed. It is prob his second or third shed (its his first since ive had him), and the skin is only coming off a bit at a time. He is now about 2/3 through (he is roughly 12"- 14" long) but its taken him 4 days to get this far. Im guessing its a humidity problem and ive been spraying the enclosure with water to raise the humidity, but i fear alot is escaping through the mesh roof (which i have now covered with bubble wrap). The ambient temp is usually between 24-28 C. What should i do now?

When my snake are going to shed I usually mist down the tank and sides and also the snake its self. I also have the screen tops half covered with saran wrap to help with the humidity. Also have 2 water bowls in with each snake. I have 2 corns, a milk and a python.
I have tried to place a humid hide box in with them with moist paper towels but they didn't use them. You could try to soak him/her to get the rest of the shed off. If it stays on to much longer it may not come off till next shedding. They also need something with rough edges so they can rub on to get the shed off too.
Just my thoughts...

Cheers, I gave him a soak and now he's fully shed. I'll look at the humidity when he starts to prepare for his next shed.
Thanks

When mine start to look light or go blue, I put a wet, folded paper towel in their favorite hide spot & rewet it every day. When I have not done this, they've shed poorly, as you are describing.
