Help with Double Het Squares

chondro788 Jun 24, 2003 06:53 PM

Here is what I'm trying to understand. If I take an Albino who is het Axanthic and breed to a Het Axanthic, what are the offspring chances? If someone could show how the square would look, that would be great.
Thanks, Jason Stoots

results (on average):

25% Het. albino, Het. axanthic (i.e double het)
25% Het. albino, Homozygous axanthic (Axanthic het for albino)
25% Homozygous albino, Het. axanthic (Albino het for axanthic)
25% Homozygous albino, Homozygous axanthic (Snow)

I don't think you read my post correctly. It would be An Albino het Axanthic x Het Axanthic. There is no way of making a visual albino from this.

I thought you'd put Albino het axanthic x Axanthic het albino

I'm sure somebody else has given you the answer!

All would be het albino. About 25% would be Axanthics that are het albino and the rest would be 66% chance het axanthics that are 100% chance het albino. Sorry, I’m not much into squares but will try to figure out how to post one if no one else does and you really want one.

Homozygous Albino, Het. Axanthic,
x
Het. Axanthic,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

25% Het. Albino,
50% Het. Albino, Het. Axanthic,
25% Het. Albino, Homozygous Axanthic,

all would be het albino

..........
25% should be axanthic(het albino as said)

Only masochists use Punnett squares for more than one locus. The arithmetic method (AKA branching system, forkline, etc.) is much easier.

For an explanation, go to ringneckdove.com on the web. Then go to "Contents" and find the section named "Science & ..". Number 5 is "Advances in Classical Genetics". Read the whole paper; you will find it all useful. The pedigree problems will blow your mind. 8-)
