Do PASTEL babies change color after there FIRST SHED? I think I have a Pastel pipping not sure.

Damon Aug 23, 2004 07:13 PM

I was wondering if Pastel BABIES change at all after there first shed.

I still have that clutch of 4 eggs cooking. One of the babies pipped tonight, I cannot tell if it's a Pastel or what it is.

I think it is, the stripes on its head (cant see the body yet) look pink, or like a light tan color. It is not green.

Do very young babies look pink/black before there first shed?

I know there is a lot of varation in Pastels. The father of the clutch was a SnakeKeeper Pastel. The mother was a normal, but had some nice blushing.

Going to get photos with a new post later on tonight if they come out of there eggs. Today is day # 54.

Man I hope it is a Pastel!! Yippie! Would be so nice since I totally bombed out on my last 2 clutches with no albinos.

This is also my last clutch of the season, so it is kinda critical that I get something other then NORMAL colored babies.

No such thing. Pastels are co-dominant, pastels are the 'visible het' for a super pastel.

Hi Damon, usually their lips look kind of purple and you can see the white on their head. It can be hard to tell until they get their head all the way out though...I wish you lots of pastels!

There is no mistaking it once you hatch your first one:

....and these are crappy photos where the purple doesn't even really show up.

Jeff,

Absolutely beautiful!!!! I produced my first clutch of pastels this season and It is such a great feeling to what them come into the world. Your photos are great. What type of lighting or environment did you take you hand held pastel in. I have a cannon digital and I'm still trying to master the photography side of presenting these animals. They are so very plesent to look at and it seems very hard with lighting to actually capture there natural beauty.

Thanks for Your Time

Why? "Critical" Really?

Cause if not he'll just go bonkers. He bombed out on his 2 albino clutches. He'll feel better if he hatches all pastels. My hopes are with you Damon! Let the BP Gods shine there grace on you!
