New to breeding mice, help!

miki00 Aug 23, 2004 07:49 PM

I own 3 snakes, and im planning on breading my own mice. Can anybody recomend me a good site where i can find information about this? I can afford only one ten gallon aquarium, i was planning on getting one male and two females. When the females were about to give birth, i would take out the male and put it away in another box or something.

My advice is don't do it... For only 3 snakes it is a lot more economical, cleaner and convenient to just make the drive to Petco or whatever petstore is in your area and stock up on frozen once in a while.

I have 6 snakes and won't breed mice, way to much mess and hassle in the home environment. I usually buy 2 dozen live and euth. em and freeze em at home.

Just my (experienced) opinion...

The problem is that my snakes only feed live prey. Im still thinking about it. Since i have a medium snake, it won't matter if i have "extra" mice, it would be like a treat.

With a BP and a BRB I would consider rats before mice. How big is the Sinaloan. I am thinking you could use rats faster and easier. Less smell. Won't fit in a 10gal tank though.
If you do go with mice don't take the male out and go back and forth with him. Just leave him in there all the time. Mice don't like it when you move them around and will tend to veiw the male as an intruder coming back into the colony.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

Both the BRB and the Sinaloan are babies, feeding on pinkies. The BRB eats rat pinkies, while the Sinaloan eats mouse pinkies. I first thought about breeding rats, but 2 are babies, so i want to feed them mice first and then rats.
