A pet Peeve of mine.........

Hoppy Aug 23, 2004 08:07 PM

ok, I have to say I really hate reading that a snake is pounding, slamming or hammering any thing let alone rats, mice or rabbits. Their just seems something over violent about that saying. Is it just to uncool to say that the snake is feeding well on F/T large rats or rabbits or what ever. I don't know why but when I see that phrase in an add I don't even look at it, it just bugs me.
I get the picture in my head of a Maylin Mason wanabe dangeling Live prey 4 times a week over a Boa that is over fed and too fat, Is it just me? Do I have another meeting due with the Local Head Doctor LOL
Please let me know

I just want to send them two pictures, one of fat albert, the other of a person who has good muscle tone and is obviously in shape, and ask how an animal - in the world of boas - could be both of these at once?

So, I'm w/ ya hoppy... I've been driven up a wall!

We are a nonviolent household (as opposed to where I work) There is no hammering, slamming, pounding and most of all....no SCREAMING in the house

Is this a snake that was set on fire by the cruel owner or one with a bad Nicoteen habbit?

hahhahaha, yeah when i first heard that term the first thing that came into my mind was a boa w a cigarette sticking out of the corner of its mouth. The terms used today , u think they could have better names , i myself have used the term smokin , but think its completely stupid, i just dont know what i could up to appease everyone. and all this pounding n such , u would think that we were at a construction site, lmao

I have some snakes that slam frozen thawed rats right out of my hand, what I mean by that is the super sonic speed in which they react to feeding, like in a blink of an eye, others that just eat frozen thawed take a while to actually grab and feed.

I wouldn't waiste your money seeing a head doctor.

snakemannick Aug 23, 2004 09:28 PM

I have high speed cable access , no dialing involved so should I have a cow over those posts that don't really throw me as a dial up warning when I hear that I think oh man my line might get disconected...or it might be tapped...
Time to worry about something else in life I geuss....

obz Aug 23, 2004 09:41 PM

Who wants to keep one of those around?

Personally, 'pounding' is fine... I don't use it as a descriptive, but I dont picture the manson kid. I just picture an agressive feeder, wich is a good thing!

nothing else to say, i'm just peeved.

is when people advertise pictures of animals and it is obvious that the pics have been altered to try to make the animals look better than they are. It goes something like this.

Check out my smokin super red albino. This screamer slams F/T rats and is dripping with reds and pinks. She's puppy dog tame and an absolute stunner! LOL.

Does the snake feed well right away, or does it take a few minutes? You may have just lost a sale because subconsciously I'm not fully convinced that 'feeding well' is as good as pounding, slamming & hammering. These more descriptive terms, although perhaps over violent in your mind, do in fact convey an image of a snake that feeds better than just well. Smart sellers will continue to use these terms because they help sell animals.

>>ok, I have to say I really hate reading that a snake is pounding, slamming or hammering any thing let alone rats, mice or rabbits. Their just seems something over violent about that saying. tmflyfish Aug 25, 2004 12:13 PM

WHY NOT JUST TYPE IN ALL lowercase IF YOU'RE IN A HURRY? THE REASON IT'S A PET PEEVE IS BECASUE READING A WHOLE PARAGRAPH OF STUFF WRITTEN IN CAPS IS VERY HARD. MAYBE IT'S JUST ME, BUT lowercase IS EASIER ON THE EYES.

snakemannick Aug 25, 2004 06:10 PM

you get the point i am trying to say?

snakemannick Aug 24, 2004 07:19 PM

seems like you started a whole new pet peeve project with everyone on the phorum,, I think its funny.

tim5580 Aug 24, 2004 09:49 PM

I don't like "Dog/Puppy Tame" or "Kitten Tame" Dogs bite and maul people all the time. I've had a puppy and a kitten and they bite me all the damn time. The Chihuahua still bites me and he is 10 years old. Nothing that is bad, they are just playing but they still bite. In fact, my kitten is clawing and biting my leg as I am writing this. So why not use another term like "Goldfish Tame" or "Earthworm Tame"? I haven't been bitten by them yet.

Also, dial up warning, is there anyone on the forums besides me who still has a 14.4k connection (my mom's house). And why the hell are people posting pictures that I have to shrink down to 50% of the original size just to see what it is? I'm seeing a picture of a newborn boa and his head is so big it won't all fit on my screen.
