King and Corn crosses (pls. post pics) more

verrykerry Aug 23, 2004 11:26 PM

Hey all,

I know that kings and corns can cross right? Is this a fairly easy process? No last minute switcharoo's required??? I have an adult male (screamer) grey-banded king and I want to introduce him to one of my corns in the spring. Anyone forsee any problems with this master plan?

Would also love to see any pics of king/corn or king/rat crosses...

Thanks a bunch

Kerry in Dallas

The picture just does not capture his true color.... the colors are nearly neon in intensity. As to how to cross corn and king, scroll down to find several posts on methods used. it is a lot more involved than putting the two in the same cage.

Yeah, I didn't think it would probably be quite that easy... I'm very new at this and I'm not trying to make money doing it, it's obvious the market is saturated with Corn/King Hybrids. I just want to do it to see if I can and since I'm not a breeder of any sort I'll probably hold back a select few and find good homes for the rest.

I have another question though, How about Rat/Corn crosses? I have an adult black rat with an unusual amount or orange (for an adult) and two adult female corns, are they any easier to convince to copulate? I've never even incubated before so I'm biting off alot to chew this first year (for me) but I"m hopeful and almost confident that I can do it if I can get some good advice from you experienced guys and gals. I've searched this forum a little bit but havent found the nitty gritty info. I need to know about the moment of almost copulation, re: switching snakes, etc. Help a bro out if you have the time to type some info. which would probably be great for me and redundant for you.

I sure would appreciate any and all help...

Thanks,
Kerry T. in Dallas TX

I have not done it myself, but rat to corn crosses should be fairly easy, at least in theory. They are of the same genus, Elaphe, and crosses of different elaphe with overlapping ranges occur in the wild.(greenish rat is one off the top of my head.) The creamsicle corn snake is actually a hybrid of emorys ratsnake to cornsnake, and these are frequently made. Rat to corn should not take any, if much coaxing to get mating to occur.

Great looking snake. Some corn crosses look drab in color but some like that one are great looking.
