Anyone out there have a Leucistic Rat Snake? I'm thinking of getting one and would like to know what there temperments are like.

Although a beautiful snake, these are not considered by many to be a very docile rat snake. They can relax with time and patience, but they typically don't become an "easy-going" snake. They are usually a little jumpy around quick movement and unfamiliar stimulus. I have some and they are more nervous and edgy than Baird's, corns, or blacks, but not near as grumpy as many of the old world rats I keep. This is my experience.

Mine started out nippy...The only one of my snakes that has really ever bitten me (so far!). Although he is still fairly active when handled, I consider him a great addition to my collection. If you are concerned about getting one that will not settle down, you could consider purchasing a yearling or older that has already shown an ability to be handled without trouble. I really don't think that would be too hard to find.
