Hardoi (UNI): A black cobra was bitten to death by a female rat when it tried to devour the rodent's brood inside a dry-well at Harpalpur in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh.
The incident took place behind Harpalpur police station and the police men and local people were witness to it.
When the cobra started devouring the newly born, the mother rat attacked the reptile with its sharp teeth inflicting deep injuries.
The cobra retaliated by coiling around the rat and bit it. The 'battle' continued for half an hour when the snake died.
The mother rat also succumbed to its injuries but not before saving its brood.
