Mediterranean Gecko food?

maxout2 Aug 24, 2004 12:42 PM

I found a Med. Gecko in my kitchen (luckily before my cat did) and I wanted to keep him around for a day or so to show him to my daughter's playgroup. He is about an inch long and very active. What can I feed him to make him happy without going to the pet store and buying something when I'm not planning on keeping him long?
I gave him a slice of ripe strawberry and some water but do I need to catch him some bugs? If so do they have to be live? Hopefully not flying bugs are hard to catch live.
Thanks in advance.
Amie

you can use Crane Flies, which are real easy to catch. They are just about everywhere, they look like real big mosquitos. Or you can just turn on a porch light or go to a light at night time and catch the bugs that fly around it, since this is what the gecko does anyways. Good luck

If you're only keeping him temporarily, don't worry about food. Just show him to the kids and then release him on your porch.

I just let him go tonight - on the wrong side of the house, however, after I let him go I found 4 more on the opposite side.
Thanks for all the advice
