Anyone use Jump-Start for anorexic lizards?

shortydsm Aug 24, 2004 01:42 PM

I got Jump-Start (by ESU Reptile), "A concentrated caloric supplement and appetite stimulant for reptiles and amphibians" for my anorexic leo. We haven't figured out how/why she is not eating, and I can't get a fecal from her since she isn't pooping. I am also giving her ParaZap just in case it's internal parasites. Anyway, I am trying everything I can in the meantime, includng this Jump-Start gel. It says it "provides an energy boost for animals that are off-food, anorexicm calorie deficient or breeding." My leo doesn't mind taking it either, though it's been about 5 days & she still won't eat anything. Anyone have any tips/comments/experiences with this?

yeah...I have...and it doesn't work that well. and the funny thing is...all the times I've tried to use it, all the lizards had endoparasites. There are a couple of ways to get a fecal:
1.) Give a warm bath 3-4 times daily for approximately 15-20 min. This can possibly speed up the digestive tract.
2.) Gently massage the abdomen to stimulate the digestive tract.
Depending on where you got the parazap, and what kind of endoparasites you have, you really need to take it to a vet. Metronidazole (Flagyl) takes care of the bacteria, if there is any, and Panacur can take care of flagellate protozoans. But if you have the endoparasite coccidiosis (coccidia) then you need albon. And you can only get these through a vet. So go in for a visit, and they can get the fecal, check it out and give you the write dewormer/meds. Good luck.
