what do you all make of this?

Bearded Dragon Ultimate Vision Cage Setup

Ideal cage for one to two full size bearded dragons.
Includes: Vision Cage Model 332 with fluorescent vent (36 x 28 x 18", Mini Ceramic Heat Lamp, 100 Watt Exoterra Day Heat Bulb, 18" fluorescent light fixture, Exoterra 15" 5.0 UVB fluorescent bulb, 16 quarts Sani Chip Bedding, Small Rock Water Bowl, Small California Grapewood

would this really house two adults? I would think barely one, but I was just curious...and what the heck are sani chips?

I have two of that model. One has one dragon in (13 month old male) and the other cage holds two females (sister and half-sister). I also own the vision 432 (number maybe wrong, but its the same cage dimensions, except its 4 feet instead of three). Two females are housed in the larger cage (the two mother dragons). Anyway, both of those cages are good for bearded dragons, so long as you have the optional vent. Without the optional vent, there's only one basking light which really doesn't work for a beardie, which need lots of light/UVB.

I really like vision cages overall. The reason is their look and their ability to stack.

As to the bedding, its like wood like chips. Might be okay for adult beardies, but I wouldn't use it for babies (seemed very similar to some rodent bedding I've seen, but smaller chips).

Do the adults have enough room to run around in there? I alwus herd 4x2 is minimum.

also - what kind of heat light do you use? Does it affect the plastic in any way?

I like the visions as well. I use Barrs for anything withot claws though.

If you do the square footage comparison you are only giving up very little space I think it is less than 10 square inches.

One thing that I have noticed about Visions is that my animals tend to look dark in them reguardless of how much light I put into them.

I use a 45 watt Flood bulb and a suspended Reptisun 5.0 UV light(18".

Some dragons are more active than others. In my experience, once they reach full adulthood (around two years) they tend to get kind of lazy. I have climbing branches and stuff in their and they tend to hang out on them most of the time.

As far as lighting and heat, I use a 60 watt UVB light and fluroscent strip light (also UVB). The 60 watt makes the plastic warm, but not real hot to the touch (the leopard geckos and african fat tailed geckos in a vision cage above the dragons like the warmth from the lights below and will lay out on their "heat pads". After a few years of use, I haven't had any melting or damage to the cages.

If you have room and can afford the 4 foot cage, go with that one, but the 3 foot one is acceptable in my opinion.

I'm going to try and attach a picture, but this might not work the picture is old, the babies are much bigger now).

Is that 36" cage you have the two in are they adults? If so do they fight or seem uncomfortable at all? I've always heard that for 2 dragons you should have at least 48x2x2 for them to have enough "personal space".
If I remeber right there was a guy several months back that bought vision cages and had to build Stands in between the visions for heat dissipation. Have they come out with new cages that enable you to stack and stil use the required lighting for beardies? If so I would love to use those.... Great looking and the stackability would save so much room...

The two dragons aren't fully grown yet (13 months and 14 months), but they don't seem to have any problems with one another. One of them has really poor vision, however, and rarely comes off of her branch. The picture above is of the two but its several months old now.

Since I use 60 watt bulbs, I haven't had to separate the cages stacked on top of each other in any way, but some of those stacked don't have basking lights as they are for leapord geckos and such. Did that answer your questions?

iso9k Aug 24, 2004 04:49 PM

60 watt...how hot is your basking spot..

I just ordered the cage by the way.

iso9k Aug 24, 2004 04:53 PM

what brand? one of those esu coil lamps?

tazok Aug 24, 2004 05:00 PM

Sorry don't know what brand of lamp I use. I've gone thru a few over the years and never paid much attention to brand names on them.

brdfreak Aug 24, 2004 09:25 PM

>> Yeah that answered them... You did say you had one of the larger ones the 4' ones right? can you use a 60 watt bulb in them and keep the correct temps in the larger cage for stacking or do you have it seperate from the others? Just curious.

Thanks,

I have both sizes of vision cages (actually I have about five different vision cage models) but only two types are best suited for dragons. In both the 3 foot and 4 foot cages I have a 60 watt bulb and a strip light. I've tried a 75 watt bulb, but it got too hot directly under the light.

brdfreak Aug 24, 2004 04:30 PM

I would only put one adult in that size cage. I've never heard of the bedding but I wouldn't use it.... Duck Shelfliner is so much easier than anything I've ever used. Anything with the word chips in it can't be good... LOL...
