I've been doing some reading and became frightened when some suggested that my husbandry may have hurt (stunted etc..) my monitor. After digging a little further, I'm starting to think that the monitor is younger than I was told or assumed(yes I know...). Another factor maybe the temp. I read your post below discussing temps. Last night I took various readings and got 130F in the bask 75-80 ambient and humidity around 60%. Not sure on the humidity, but the temps seem to be on target. However, I have noticed that the monitor likes to hide most of the time and may not be using the temp. that is available. The cage is 4x2x2, substate is topsoil/cypress mix with 2 hide spots available, one of which is my very crude attempt at a Retes (sp?) stack. I'm not sure why the monitor would chose to hide most of the time, but if he/she is not getting upto temp that may explain why the appitite (4 hoppers every few days) is less than others are reporting (much more). Long winded sorry, but almost done. Any suggestions on why the monitor is hiding so much, or pointing out holes in my logic would be helpful.

he could be hiding all the time because he's not getting enough privacy, like taking 40 pictures of him a lick. how long have you had him/her?

Since Dec. This is the first round of pics that I've taken outside the ones I took when I first got the monitor. The hide spots are never disturbed.

Looks like a fine little argus to me. I would worry more about the appetite, but that sort of thing really requires you to figure it out. In the end the monitor looks good.

My only suggestion is making sure there is a temp gradient across the places to hide. Substrate itself can be a hide for argus.

Other than that, I agree with Frank - nice argus
