Babysitting an iggie for the winter.....have a few question about lights????

Chameleon996 Aug 24, 2004 04:53 PM

My sister rescued an adult iggie this summer and he has been living happily outside in his own spacious cage. We do not know how old he is, someone moved out of their apartment and left him. He is about 2 1/2 feet long STV, but he only has about a foot of his tail. Obviously he was not taken care of properly.

Anyway my question is lighting. Being outside he didn't need it, inside however he will. I use Capture The Sun Mercury Vapor Bulbs on my chams, will this work for him? And what temp basking spot should I set up? He will be in the same cage, we are just going to move it into my house

I want to caution you about those Capture The Sun bulbs. Some people use them, and their UVB output dwindles to almost nothing in juat a few months, according to their UVB meters. Westron bulbs, for one brand, do what they are said to do.

Your ig will need a cage with a temperature gradient that they can choose from. It must be around 95 F. in the warm spot, and 80 or so in the cool end. At night, a young ig should be kept at 75, and a mature ig can get by with 70 F. Place the UVB output in the warm side of the cage.

Have you read a caresheet on green iguanas?

This is simple and to the point:

This is a huge volume of articles on green igs:
