New to pits

Hey there everyone! Well as the post is titled, I am a newbie... I just got small bull (I think he looks like a "het Specked", what does that mean?) and I have read the care sheets and everything else I can find on "him". Yet my insatiable curiosity has me craving more. Any thoughts, ideas, or tips? I also need to know if there is a reputable source online for "pinkies" and other size feeder mice.

Welcome to the world of Pituophis! They are certainly great snakes...I personally favor the eastern varieties (northern pines, southern pines, black pines, etc.) but they are all great animals. As far as info is concerned, there is a plethora of it here from a husbandry standpoint. If you're looking for more from the natural history aspect, there is alot on that here too...There are several great books discussing Pituophis, and I'd encourage you to read those as well...

As far as food for your new friend, I personally buy all my frozen rodents from The Mouse Factory...They package 'em great, and they always arrive when they say they will. The rodents themselves are very reasonably priced, but you have to understand that the dry ice and overnight shipping is going to be the expensive part. (I generally pay about 30.00-35.00 in shipping per order.) I do believe that you can see their website from the "Breeders/Dealers/Stores" area of this site. They also have a toll-free 800 number to call and place an order.

-Enjoy your new snake!
