Eggs and Females!?!

jesseter Jun 24, 2003 09:07 PM

Well the first eggs my little gecko laid got mold and shrank. That was about a month ago. Now it's a month later and she laid #2 more that I found today. Unfortunately she laid them in her humid box again! Which she loves and never wants to leave. So she ended up laying on top of the eggs and crushing them!! Is there any way to get her to lay in her lay box? She does have one, but will not use it. The other thing I was curious about is will a female that has not successfully mated lay a clutch once a month? Or did she have to have a successful mating first? Please any help or information is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

whats the difference between your humid hide and lay box? i use the same box for both. a female can lay with mating, but they will obviously be infertile.

your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it, and you'll ask yourself, "where is my mind"

Well the lay box is a cool whip container. While her humid hide is a glad container. So does that make a difference? If she was a "virgin" would she still lay a clutch once a month?! Thanks for responding!!

I have a single Humid/Laybox filled with Vermiculite.

My female (who is housed with a male) has laid 3 clutches in this box and has never crushed them.

My suggestions are.

1. Is she with a male? If not then I guess she is producing eggs but they will be infertile.

2. Make the substrate in the box deeper so she can bury them and will no disturb them. (Mine is about 1-2inches deep.

Can't think what else to suggest. If your problem is your keeping your eggs to damp when incubating them. Have a look at a this page for details on this page it comes highly recomended.

Hope I've helped alittle.
