This is a wild caught from Montana. The scales are a lot less keeled than the melanistic eastern's scales.

I found this female last year. I have never seen one like it and I have seen hundreds if not thousands of wandering garter snakes. This is by far my favorite snake. She will be in reproductive condition after this year.

Though this one is not entirely black like Scott's I like the intermitent pattern.

A guy found it in Central Montana. He had cared for it for about 2 months. Haven't sexed it yet but believe it is a large adult male.
