Can one have too many lizards? :-P

shortydsm Aug 25, 2004 01:45 AM

I have 4 large, seperate lizards tanks (as of now, more to come after my move in Sept!) and I noticed that when I have people over they are either a) really weirded out b/c I 'live in a zoo' or b) thinking it's cool that I have all these lizards. I want to get 2 more different species of lizards (a cham & a tegu) but that means 2 more tanks. I am thinking of devoting a bedroom strictly for the herps, that way, the tanks won't be all over my place. Anyone else do this?

Anyway, aren't lizards addicting?! Personally I don't think you can ever have too many, as long as you can adequately care for them all. This was just a ramble post, lol....

Yeah...I have 5 separate lizard tanks...and I'm building a massive cage for my water dragons. I'm up to 14 lizards...and 4 of them aren't in the best of health right now...so it takes a lot of time. Yeah lizards are addicting, but I had a vet tell me not to let it get too out of control. My advice is to make sure each one is well established and in good to great health before you go get another one. It's hard trying to spread all of your extra time out on sick animals. Good luck.

I do have a small reptile room (made out from a small, tight, unused garage about 4 metres in length and around 1,5 metres wide) wich is cramped with herps. I have 3 specially made BTS pens made with green sides (rather see through, but its colour makes my male BTS know theres a barrier), 2 aquariums (one reserved 4 my upcomming leo, and one for my 4 amboina box turts), and 4 rubbermaid containers (1 for my male asian leaf turt, 1 for my lone male amboina box turt that likes to bite , one for my trio of golden skinks, and one for a trio of RES that i bred myself ) I also have 3 tubs (one for my male softshell, one for geno, one out of 3 of my RES that is in solitairy confinement till hes strong enough to join the other 2, and one for a goldfish that was originally 4 disecting in biology class ). Lizards 9and herps 4 that matter) r very addicting. Be sure u r able to care for all of your pets, and think twice before purchasing any additional stock.

Honestly now. Just look at my signature. I dont make much money, and i dont live in a huge house, but i love my kids and i always find space for those who need it. I have almost an entire room devoted to all of the little (er, and not so little) critters. It isnt just a hobby either. For all of you hard core herpers, you know what i mean. It becomes a way of life. Everyone at work sees me as the 'crazy girl with lots of weird pets'. I guess i am, but that is not only what i do, but who i am. And i dont regret it one bit~!

Okay it looks like you may be able to answer this for me, and hopefully not die laughing at my ignorance. What do all those numbers next to peoples listed pets mean. Like 1.1.1

It stands for male.female.unsexed, so say I have 2 male anoles and 1 female anole, it would be 2.1 anoles. Or if I have 2 baby leos whose sex is undeterminable, it would be 0.0.2. Make sense?

well, I only have two lizards right now, and I'm building three stacking cages, 4'x2'x2' each....notice 2 reptiles 3 cages = room for more! After I figure out my college plans of course (going into 11th grade right now, don't want to add more reptiles and give my parents more work if I have to go away for college). One thing I keep in mind though is that I don't want so many herps that taking care of them actually becomes a burden.

Off topic, but your user name makes me curious...how tall are you?
