CORN HUSKS?? for a sulcata??

julesthegr8 Aug 25, 2004 12:36 PM

Hey does anyone know about the benifit, or lack there of of offereing your sulcata the outter part of a corn cob, you know the leafy bit you peel off to get at the good stuff?

On a joureny to the composter I dropped some of the leaves on the ground of my backyard and my 2 year old sulcata went right to it, I think its the smell. She seem to really like it. It seems very fiberous and green, and I took it away of course as it needed to be atleast washed (the corn is from my aunts farm who grows organic corn with no pesticides etc.) but in Ontario there is alot of corn and I was wondering if she does like it, is there any harm. It does seem to be a very fiberous part of the plant.

Has anyone has knows/found any problems with allowing this into a sulcata's diet?
any feed back would be appriciated,

I don't see a problem with it to add that much more variety. I'd sugges cutting it up so the strands are not so long.

Dude, mine go NUTS and do just the same. It's pretty funny to see. Only my Sulcata are smart enough to hold one end of the cob down and rotate it. No kidding...

Good to see you in Daytona man! Make sure Jerry takes good care of that KILLER Elongata you got from me.

The only problem I could find with corn husks is the potential for toxic molds (aflatoxin)that can occur during droughts.

So don't give them moldy husks!!!

I've tried to give corn husks to my russians and leopards. They show no interest.
