Mice have mites? Maybe?

bhdesigns Aug 25, 2004 01:16 PM

I have a small colony of mice, a male and two females. One of the females just gave birth to a litter of eight (and they're cute so I'm really glad I'm not snuffing their little lives out - making the fiance do it instead LOL).

Both females have recently been jumping and darting all over the cage. It's almost what I'd expect from a mite infestation, only I've never seen mice with mites, so I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

If it is mites, how do I treat this? Other than sterilizing the cage and accessories, I mean. Is there a rodent-specific medication I can purchase?

Thanks in advance!

First, I would look for bugs on the mice. Second I would see if they are scratching.
I have not had to treat mice but have treated rats and rabbits on a vet's advice with Ovitrol Plus spray. Just don't feed off anyone for a couple weeks after treating them.
