Need advice on finding a proportional thermostat

rudedogsurfrat Aug 25, 2004 05:59 PM

I'm looking for a good thermostat for a good value. I'll be heating a melamine rack system with heat tape.
Any suggestions?

Check Big Apple Herpetological. The proportional unit is around $100 or so, but will be the best thing you get for heat tape. Better than ON/OFF controllers for that application. Totally worth it.

If you search the current or 2003 archives, you will find many, many discussions about this product. Bottom line, as Mark indicated, it does a good job. I am happy with mine (~15).

My Big Apple, hardly moves from the temp I have it set on. +/- 1-2 degrees, if at all.
Very compact unit. I would like to add however, that I wish it had a digital temp setting. Mine uses a knob that your dial to the temp you want. But then you have to be careful not to bump it. Not a big deal if you locate it up out of the way.

I have a number of them and have been using them since they were introduced. No problems at all, just great, reliable performance.
