Southern California road cruising update

metalpest Aug 25, 2004 09:07 PM

Nine snakes last night in under two hours. Unfortunatly, six were dead. More babies were out last night, though, adding gopher and southern pacific rattler to our baby list from the last two weeks, which also includes mojaves, several kings, and long nosed snakes. Also one very interesting find: there was a DOR mojave that we stopped for, and when I got out and identified it, I saw something off on the shoulder out of the corner of my eye, another mojave! This one was making its way onto the road along the same path the roadkill must have took. The roadkill looked female (had the hips) and the other looked like a large male. I would say it was following feramones but Im betting breeding season is over. They probably both picked up on the scent of a rodent that made its way across the road or something.

Well Im glad the hunting is getting good again, cant wait for my next trip!

Happy Hunting!
