My Pastel Bleed During a shed?

billcherep Aug 25, 2004 09:29 PM

I watched my female pastel Shed tonight. She is still very young, 180g. I Looked at her after her shed and she had a little bit of blood that seemed to be coming out of her hole that she deficates out of. I am very worried about her. Does anyone know what this could be. It was a perfect shed. Should I take her to a vet?

it seems that this sometimes occurs... someone please correct me if I am wrong... but I do not believe anything is wrong with the snake... I have had a few sheds with a bit of blood on the skin around the coclea (sp?) area. it seems as long as they do not continue to bleed all is fine... I do not know what causes this but (just a guess) it may be from them rubbing to get the skin off and them being so young?... as I said... I don't know what causes it, however I do know my snakes both did it when they were younger and I have not seen any problems with them...

thank you. I am so worried about her. This put me at ease a bit. If anyone else can give me any other experiences it would help a bunch. Thanks

this happened to my snake when it was young.I think this is normal for the snake no needs to worry.

...sometimes a capillary will burst in the cloaca when the skin lining the cloacal mucosa separates during a shed. This is common and nothing to worry about!

...CLOACA...an interesting word!
