price for a CB B&W SIGB?

SnakeGrrl Aug 26, 2004 12:50 AM

Hey folks, maybe someone here can help me out. Two years ago I got in a beautiful, gravid, orange SIGB at work, who proceeded to drop 30 babies. Well I kept the prettiest, mouse-feeding black and white one for myself. Here we are two years later and I'm looking to downsize my collection. I have a gentleman who is interested in purchasing said snake, but I really have NO clue what they go for. I'm not interested in making big bucks, I mostly just want a good home for it, but was wondering what a nice, captive bred, mouse-feeding, black and white candioa is worth approx.? Thanks in advance!

Being a gecko breeder and a newbie to snakes I am probably not a great source of info. I am making the assumption that by B&W you mean Santa Isabell Isle animals. I traded a partial pinstrip Crested gecko (adult, female that I was asking $200 for) and $50 for a 2 foot subadult female. The deli cup for the Isabell was marked $300. She is Conway stock so that will also be a factor.

Hope this helps, I too would like to know what the animal is worth as I picked it up on an impulse trade and it seemed like a good deal as the gecko was one I bred and I had no $$$ into her.

I like. She is a nice looking, healthy Solomon. Hey, the yahoo group member is looking to trade his two Solomon females for some Geckos. It sounds like what type of Geckos you breed. Go to the "other boas" classifieds and I think Pauls add is on the 23rd or close to there. This might be your start into the madness of Candoia

My question is how often and what size and quantity of food items should I be looking at. She is around 2 feet and they said about a year and a half old. I fed two pinkies w/in the first week and she has not shown any interest in a fuzzy since. So it is going on three weeks since the last meal.

I basically had no idea what she was worth other than it was pretty and the other vendors next to my table were all oogling it and shaking their head yes when the trade offer went out. The gek was not worth anything to me, so for me the snake was $50. On the other side of the deal, the snake could well have had the same value to them as the gek was to me. Anyway, I was very happy with the result and can see getting into these animals could be trouble.

Leachies ($250-$1000) and Chahouas ($200-$350) are pricey gex.
Thanx for all of the info...

I would try feeding her every two weeks. For my juveniles I Usually feed every 12 to 14 days. Once adults,1 correct size mouse every 21 days. They have a typical Boa feed responce but all I have read and keepers like Jerry Conway and quite a few other long time breeders I have been talking to here and in the Yahoo group pretty much have figured out that 21 days between feedings is fine. Even my babies I only feed every 12/13 days. It just seems wierd compared to my Kingsnakes which it seems would eat 24/7 if you would let them
I have no scientific proof but after raising a handful of babies I believe that less is best. These are truely amazeing Boas. I started the yahoo group feeling we needed a place to discuss these guys since I feel there is so much more to learn about them.

There seems to be such a great variance right now it is really hard to figure out what they are worth. Captive born Santa Isabel babies from some well known breeders go for around 100.00 to 125.00 with the other color phases being slightly cheaper- anywhere from 25.00 to 75.00 dollars. I myself two years ago purchased an adult pair of female Santa Isabel adults for $160.00 for both. I am not knocking anyones hard work with Candoia but I cant see where the adults are worth the asking prices I am seeing on Kingsnake and else where. There is one guy asking 300.00 bucks for a red phase female!!!! Come on, thats at tops an 75.00 to 100.00 dollar animal. I have seen Jerry Conway offer up some young adults in the low 200.00 dollar range that have looked really, really nice. He had a nice male that if I had the money at the time, it would be in my collection right now. If you want to see what some realistic prices are currently,I invite you to join my yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pacificislandboas and look in the "file Section" for Candoias for sale. It will list the post # and then you can find the original announcement by scrolling back through the old post in the forum. One of the yahoo members has a pair right now for sale at kingsnake(other boas for sale section) for around 200.00 bucks for the pair.To me thats pretty reasonable. I know some "quiet" breeders of Candoia that breed some awesome stuff that warrants some higher prices but it will be later this fall before the offspring are up for grabs.Did you go wrong trading your Gecko for the Candoia? I would say no. I am sure you have a really nice looking Isabel. Sorry for the long rambling but its late and I have been working all sorts of crazy shifts and days at work so hopefully there is some sense in my post

Something is worth what someone else is willing to pay. The one below is not for sale, though.

That is a really nice looking Solomon. I had one that looked just like that but after a year I put her down becouse she refused to eat anything She was a full grown adult but I think she had been W/C and I never could figure out what she ate. What was really bad, it was presented as captive born. I wasnt trying to insult anyone. I have had a yahoo group for around a year and have had numerous conversations with people from Australia, Germany, Sweden, Palau, Spain, Indonesia and all over world and these obsevations were taken from what I have been told, seen and experienced in my quest for more adults.
