Hello

I would like to know if the Zoo Med Compact Fluorescent 5.0 UV Bulb would work for my red eared sliders. lllreptile.com says that it fits into regular light bulb fixtures. Is this true? Cuz... it says that it's only 24.99 and that cheap.

Thank

i thought that UVB only came in the long tubes. i am not aware of UVB being in a regular light bulb. but if the description says it has UVB as well as UVA then you should be ok. i just always thought that UVB only came in the long tubes, but i could be mistaken!

Sounds fine to me, compact flourescent and mercury vapor bulbs will fit in a standard socket and can produce UVB and UVA.

The compact flourescents are brand new. I picked one up this past weekend from Reptile Depot for $20 at the weekend's past expo here in Southern Cali. I haven't used it yet, but it seems more convenient since it does fit into a regual socket. The good thing about this bulb is that it actually tells you on the box that the uv light emmissions only last 6 months and should be changed every 6 months. Something that a lot of people don't know about the flourescent tubes.

I use one of those new 2yr bulbs, they are like a coiled flourescent bulb and fit into a regular light fixture. they are only like $7. pretty cheap. anyway, just another option.
