Eating/swallowing food while its still alive?

dc516 Aug 26, 2004 04:09 AM

any of your kings eat their food when they are still alive? the last 3 times i fed my king pinkies she has swallowed them alive, not fully constricting them till death.

I'm eventually going to switch her over to F/T later on when she gets big enough to eat small adult mice so she can share a bulk order with my BP.

she didnt do this with her 1st 7-8 pinkies that ive fed her since i got her.

Just about all neonates will do this. Pinkies do not pose any kind of threat to the snake, so they will not waste the time to kill it, instead, eating it alive. Every one of my snakes that I have owned as hatchlings/neonates have done this with pinkies, especially problem feeders that will only eat live pinks. They should be switched over to F/T as soon as they will take them, just to save you any future headaches.
