Are they easier then rats? I know my snakes would have to eat twice as many but Im under the impression they breed faster anyway..I have a hard time with rats becasue they are so smart and cute and Ive kept them as pets. I hate gassing them, I dont feel good about keeping them in tubs so I end up with caging and space problems. Mice are out of the question as my dh is very allergic to them. Anyone have experience here with these?

Nope... Gerbils have an almost 6 week cycle where rats can have about 3 weeks... when I say 6 weeks I mean.. the female will get pregnant.. have a litter 3 weeks later..She may get pregnant again immediately however she'll delay implantation of those young until her present litter is weaned...then she'll have another 3 weeks on the other side of that.. before she has another litter. (Trust me.. I've been raising gerbils for 10 years... rats are the way to go for breeding feeders) plus.. Gerbils only have between 3 and 6 young normally making it very unworth the wait...and with your snakes needing to eat double or triple of them.. you won't get the output you need.

Oh.. and if you have a problem gassing or euthanizing rats due to personality and cute-ness *L*.. you'll have it doubly with Gerbils. They easily have 2 or 3 times the personality a rat does..*chuckles*

Although I was looking at them and they are awful cute. I might just get one for a pet..Like I need more pets..
