solutions for a "little pooper"?

buffysmom Aug 26, 2004 11:05 AM

My yearling corn is pretty skittish. I got her at just under a year & she probably wasn't handled much or at all. I'm trying to calm her down by handling her regularly, but she also regularly poops on me when I do! I try to keep handling her for a while after she poops, before I put her back in her cage, so she doesn't start associating pooping on me w/ going back home. Is there anything else I can do to discourage this behavior? It doesn't seem to matter how many days after eating I hold her (I always wait 3 days).

I have a little guy that will only poop on me. He has only pooped in his tank twice since I got him (about 8 months ago). I'm beginning to actually like it - I get a couple of paper towels before I take him out. I keep an eye on him when I first take him out, if he stops moving I look for the tell-tale muscle contractions near his vent and hold him over the paper towels. I've gotten pretty good at recognizing when he is going to do it and it makes cleaning the tank a snap. I've never left him in the tank for a long period of time (more than a few days) without handlin - I presume if I left him long enough he would go in the tank, but for now it's just kind of amusing.
