Golden mantella frogs preffer to lay eggs in moist depressions or holes under moss, leaf litter, etc. rather than on smooth surfaces (petri dish, plastic lid) under cover (coconut hut) like dart frogs. Some breeders use coconut huts or similar shelters with mantella frogs and will occasionally find eggs under them but they certainly aren't required for mantella frogs to live or breed. Good luck, enjoy the frogs,
