Rock formations w/ a second level

dispute21stars Aug 26, 2004 01:56 PM

Hi, I'm planning on making my glass tank it's a 65 gallon tall so probably 24"x15"x24", but i want to create a rock formation w/ a second level for my leopard i'm gonna try to add a sheet of plexy glass and add some little bars in the glass so i can mount and remove the second level to have easy access to the 1st level hopefully i can do the plexy to where it will have a access ramp and rock formations on the ramp all the way up to the top level heating shouldn't be a problem w/ a 65 watt red light on top to heat the upper level and a UTH on the 1st I'll also be adding tile in the first floor which should make a real cool theme, but i hope my leo

Sounds awesome, and the tank you have looks nice. One question/thought though...does your leo like to climb, or is this more for looks? I know one of mine likes to go as high as he can, but the other one is a lazy ground dweller. LOL. It is totally up to you, I was just thinking it sounds like a ton of work.
Also, a really great site I was told about to do the whole fake rock wall idea might save you some time and money...

Takes a few days for it to dry, but it looks awesome. And it could be something that could be used in lots of types of setups, so if you have something besides a leo, you could use it there too.
Good luck, and post pics when you get it done. I'd love to see it!

thanks a bunch for that link, ya i've got all the supplies ready and i'm just preppin' the tank right now for it, i'm pretty sure my leo likes to climb it's just when i swap her in my quarentine tank she hides more like shes unfamilar w/ the tank, but i had that ivy drapping in the back over her little hide hut, i caught her a week ago climbing up the ivy like she was arboreal it was to funny but i'm pretty sure the design will come out cake they say i'm "mechanically inclined" at work so it shouldn't be hard haha i'll post pics and let everyone see how i do the 2nd level thanks

oh wow i really messed up the styrofoam i didn't know that the paint thinner takes so long to eat the crap and i put to much on so it ate to much i think i'm gonna fill in the big hole w/ the insulation so it will come out still, i'm using 1/2" pvc or smaller tubes that go from the bottom 12" up on all 4 corners of the thank that will hold up the 2nd floor kinda like pillars, i was gonna use wood trim 1/4" but it would look ugly glueing it to the glass so i'm goin' w/ the pvc

Haha, sorry sounded funny the way you posted that. I would still love to see the pics when you are done. One of these days, I will get around to making that sort of background for my other lizard cage (more aboreal lizards, Olina wouldnt care much for it I think). I would seriously like to see how it turns out though. Remember to post pics when you are done please! And good luck!
