Need Help with baby jackson's!

Anthonyd Aug 26, 2004 04:43 PM

My baby Jackson's are not doing very well. Several have died already. I dont know whats wrong. They just sleep all of the time. They drink but they dont wonder around enough to find food. They are extremely week. 6 of them are doing great, eating drinking and are very alert and wonder throughout the cage. but the rest seem to be struggling. They are in a 2 x 2 4 all screen enclosure with a life ficus tree that has been cleaned. There are 4 dishes with pinhead crickets throughout the cage. Is there something wrong with my set up? Do they have some sort of parasite (Their mother is a wild caught female)? If any one can help, please do.

For now take them out of the screen cage and put them in a large rubbermaid tub with a screen lid. while they are in the tub you don't need a heat lamp but will need a UV light. Also depending on how young they are alternate feeding friut flies to get them motivated and make sure they are staying hydrated.

I hope you are keeping them indoors they seem to languish in the heat. If there eyes are closed that's not a good sign. I let my pinheads roam in the cage and my baby Jackson's seem to hunt great and wander the cage. You don't want the crickets to bite chameleons,so I put little carrots around the cage for the crickets to feed off of. Also they should be misted like 3 or 4 times a day lightly. Hope this helps and good luck.

Do you know the temps and humidity? They're indoors, right? How old are these babies? I would try to get some fruit flies in there just to try something different. How many babies are in that cage? If you are able to get some FF, skewer a piece of fruit and stick it in the soil of the plant so it's up higher...the FF will gather around the fruit some...some will wander. Mist them several times a day...don't skimp on the water, but be careful at the same time...mist slowly with a fine mist.

The babies are in doors where it is relatively cool (70's). I spray them at least 3 times a day also. I will try fruit flys to see if that works any better.
