Website I made to track growth

crtoon83 Aug 26, 2004 04:45 PM

I put together this webpage to track the growth and development of all my snakes.

it's located at

students.uwf.edu/crt4/snakes.html

And by the way my baby male bairdi finally ate...I put him in a 10 gallon tank with a thermal gradient (86 hot side, 78 or so cold side) and gave him a day or two and fed him this morning and he ate it and didnt regurg it within the hour before I left for class (and im out of town until tomorrow evening) but i dont think he's having a problem now!

Thanks for all your help!

Actually may I suggest a small change? You have:

Lola is a female licorice stick black rat snake. She is going to grow 6-7 feet or so. She was hatched in 3/03.

Should be She is going to grow anywhere from 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 feet with the possibility of reaching a length upwards of 8 feet although that is very rare.

Most black rats that I have seen in the wild are on average about 5 feet.

Nice to see all the pics of your snakes! Looks like you're enjoying them quite a bit. I agree with the previous poster that though Black Ratsnakes can reach 6-7 feet, most end up in the 4.5 - 5.5 foot range. It's great to document the color changes and size differences over time with photos, and digital cameras make it a lot easier!

Glad to hear your male Bairdi is doing better also.

Btw- I've noticed that you keep referring to Frankie as a Neonate. Neonate means new born (or newly hatched with snakes from eggs). At over a year old and at the size he appears to be in the pics, I'd probably call both of your Black Rats "Yearlings". With hatch dates of 03, they've passed a year, so they're yearlings. You could also call them juveniles. There are a few different terms for young animals and they change as the animals age to identify what stage of development they're in. Like infant, toddler, child, teen etc... with human childern. Not trying to be picky, just clarifying the term.

I really have been wondering what "neonate" means...thats what the breeder told me he was, lol. He's kinda brown so I was thinking thats what it meant...but I guess he'll just grow up to be black. I was also told that they would probably grow upwards of 7 feet usually...but that is a big relief knowing they won't grow quite as large as that :D I'll get that stuff changed tonight when I get home.

I'm also thinking of switching the order so the most recent shed is the first one that you will see.

thanks for the info!
