i'm having trouble getting my young geckos to eat

xruthlessx76 Jun 24, 2003 11:53 PM

the geckos range 1-2 months old, i have a food dish with coated meal worms in each one, but they aren't hardly moving and the geckos don't even know they're there...the worms have been at room temp all day(about 80). i also have some dry flies from zoo med leopard gecko food next to the worms, those aren't being eaten either yet. i think only 3 of my 10 geckos have eaten a couple worms :/
this is also my first night having the geckos, they arrived in the mail today, could that have something to do with it? right now i have 5 geckos per 10 gallon tank. but i also have a large plastic bin, should i put a few in there? if so how many should i put in each one? 4 of the geckos are slightly smaller than the rest. any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

my suggestion would be to go to target or wall mart or anything like that, and get 5 or 10 plastic shoe boxes. its always best to have less geckos housed together, they are solitary animals. they probably wont eat well for a few days, maybe weeks. dont worry to much until you see weight loss or other problems.

Yes, I think it would be good if you could house them individually for a while. This way you would be able to monitor them. Also the weaker fellow would not be deprive of access to food.

Yep I agree house them seperate so you can keep an eye on them to make sure they are eating, and make sure they are not sick. After a while you should be able to tell who is/isnt eating as well. You shouldn't put more than 2 leos in a 10 gal tank, not enough terrotiry to split between them.

I just got my two month old gecko a week ago and she wouldnt eat at all the first day either. Everyone just told me to be patient, she was just nervous about her new place. I stopped worrying and she ate the next day no problem.
