Another question about corns and tail shaking

cee4 Aug 26, 2004 08:54 PM

I mentioned before I just found my corn after 3weeks missing well her newest behaviour has been to shake her tail violently like a rattler when I go to pick her up.I think due to the injuries she must have been attacked by a mouse or something would this cause this new warning she has? She is still friendly otherwise, never ever trys to bite. It sounds rather bizarre, at first I couldnt figure out what was going on because her tail was in her hide..

Corns have a natural reaction in the wild to rattle their tails against dead leaves and create a sound of a 'rattle'. This response tends to ward off potential predators.
The reason your corn is doing this is due to the 'wild' response. Even though these animals are many generations captive bred, they are still far from domestic. When released for long periods of time, they tend to regress back to their wild instincts. Alot of times, even bringing them outside to roam on the fresh grass will illicit this response.
A few days of normal handeling and TLC should help your corn to remember who he was before his adventure. No worries, you will have your old corn back soon enough.
