Baby Eastern Milk Pictures

Lyn Aug 26, 2004 11:14 PM

I have been wanting an Eastern Milk, but didn't want to take one from the Wild. I live in NY. It's legal to own Easterns, but I've been told you can't breed them or sell them. So getting an Eastern Milk has been a bit of a challenge.

In June, a female Eastern was dropped off at a local vet clinic with pretty bad injuries. A friend of mine took her in in hopes of nursing her back to health. I got to see the snake and was hoping my friend would give her to me. But she has done more rescues and worked with more injured animals than me, so she was more equipped to treat the snake. While it was likely she was WC (the person who dropped her off did not specify where she came from)it didn't look like she could be released back to the wild due to the injuries she'd sustained to her jaw.

My friend emailed me a few days later asking if I still wanted an Eastern Milk. Reason being, the injured Eastern laid a clutch of eggs!

30 days later out popped 7 adorable babies. Last night I got to see them for the first time, and got to hand pick which ones I wanted. I wasn't sure if I was going to take 2 or 3. The first two that I picked up ended up being the first two I took, then I found a third that just had to come home too. That one was smaller than the rest, so I was a bit worried, but it's also the only one of the three who is biting, so I'm hoping he'll be a good eater. He really chomped away on my finger this morning.

Here are some pics of the babies. No names yet, just Baby One, Baby Two, and Baby Three after the order I picked them out...

Baby One...

Baby Two...

Baby Three...

It was very hard to get pictures of them, they are really squirmy. I like that they are extremely alert and active, constantly exploring their enclosure. I'll post more pics as they get bigger! Thanks for looking!

I flipped over Baby Three and discovered he/she has a patternless belly. The other two have the normal checks on their bellies. Neat!

Thanks for looking!
